c o n f e r e n c e p p a p e r :Distance Made Good: Installations using GPS to chart local topographies

b r i e f : distance made good (dmg) was the first collaborative installation done by Jen Hamilton and Jen Southern. They were invited to make a work that connected two distant locations that shared the same name, in this case, Stratford Upon Avon in the UK, and Stratford, Ontario, in Canada.

In this and subsequent pieces, recorded lines taken from GPS devices formed the conceptual content, and the basis for the installation's design. Spaces within the two cities are investigated by walking through them; these two separate distant locations are then twinned and compared to one another through date and location specific journeys and the recorded lines taken from the GPS.
